Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Isn’t it too cold?!
A: The Mermaid MegaFest world record attempt is dry-land based on the sandy shore of Lake Michigan.
Memorial Weekend marks the beginning of the summer season! Cool spring days transition to sunny warm weather. For South Haven, the weather channel is predicting air temperatures for a high of 69° and a low of 52° on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Sunrise will be at 6:15 am and sunset at 9:11 pm.
Those sunny days won’t have been around long enough to heat the Great Lakes though. The water temperature will probably be a chilly 50°. Which is why our world record attempt will be held on the sandy beaches and the South Pier - not swimming in the water.
Q: Do I need a ticket to attend the festival? What are tickets for??
A: Attending the festival at large is free, but we offer various ticket options for those who wish to get more out of their experience.

Q: What qualifies as a Mermaid Costume for the World Record Attempt?
A: Only participants in full mermaid dress must be counted for the record. A full costume consists of a fishtail skirt of at least ankle length and costume top. A costume top can be a simple swimsuit top or tankini as long as embellishments, such as seaweed or seashells, are included. A simple sea shell pin or necklace can suffice. Participants are more than welcome to become more elaborate with their costume tops if they wish. Male participants may be shirtless but must wear the fishtail skirt. T-shirts and the like are not acceptable. The fishtail skirt does not have to enclose the feet with a swimmable fluke.
